6 months

Sam had his 6 month check up yesterday. He is doing great. He is 18lbs and is in the 75% for weight and height. (Ben was 9months old when he weighed 18lbs)! His balance while sitting is great for his age and he is progressing perfectly.

He is also doing really well with his sleeping. Most nights he goes from 9pm to 7:30am. He's been up a couple times around 5am to eat, but goes right back to sleep. I think that's phenomenal for his first week in his crib.

While we were at the doctor, I asked her how much sleep Ben should be getting. With naps he should be around 12-14 hours a day. Most days Ben gets 8 or 9. (The boy just wont go to sleep)! Her response, "He'll make a great doctor someday."

The big walk

Today was the March of Dimes walk. It was the perfect day for it. They were predicting rain for the morning, but at the last minute the forecast changed to sunny and beautiful. The race was a huge success. I'm not sure how many people were there, but we were part of quite a crowd. We took a 4 mile walk from The Flats through the Browns stadium, up to Tower City and back into the Time Warner Pavilion. We worked up quite a sweat, but it was worth it to walk through the crowds and see all the babies that have benefited from the money being raised and knowing we were helping so many more. Jon and I want to thank those who donated to Team Purdum. We surpassed our goal by $50.
Before--ready to walk:

After--ready for a shower: When we got home, Ben needed to take a minute to smell the flowers.

Just a couple cute pics I wanted to share:

P.S. Huge props to Prasti who kicked butt walking up a ridiculously huge hill at 9months pregnant!

Clutz part 2

We went out for a walk last night and had a fun night out with great weather. We started at a friends house so we had our car with us. We finished the walk and were about 10feet away from the car when Ben tripped on the sidewalk and got his first real skinned knee. He got a gogurt treat to make him feel better and that seemed to do the trick. He has been sure to tell us many times today that he, "fell on the floor and got a boo boo." He has assured us that his knee is ok though.
Ben showing off the damage to his elbows.

The day started a little better with a trip to dads work for another picnic and more airplanes. It never gets old!It was really windy!

Ben wanted to make sure we got a picture of a plane.

March of Dimes

A couple weeks ago I heard Aaron and Prasti mention they were doing a March of Dimes walk this weekend. I've done Race for the Cure before and have thought about a leukemia and a few other walks, but have never got to them. I don't know if its laziness, my huge dislike of fundraising, remembering the personal reasons for wanting to do the walks...maybe all of the above. However, since I heard them mention March of Dimes, it seems like its been everywhere. All of the sudden its on the radio, billboards, commercials, casual conversation at the table next to us. Last week I read the story of Maddie Spohr which was on another blog I read. Every time I check back to their blog, I can't help but burst into tears. The fear of SIDS has reeked havoc on my mental well being for the past six months. I can't imagine what Heather and Mike Spohr are going through. I checked back on Prastis blog today and her post was about the walk. You have the option to donate or walk, and I think its about time I did something. Please check the link to the side if you are interested in donating or walking with us.

Stupid dog

Each week (sometimes each day) I look at Bailey and wonder if she is the dumbest dog ever. If not the dumbest, definitely the most annoying! Just when we start to trust her to be alone in the house (not in her crate) she decides to chew something. We've gone through blinds, diapers (yes, the dirty ones), garbage, toys, even part of my breast pump! Each time, she gets put back in her crate when we leave until enough time has passed that we think she can be left out again. Last week we came home to a trail of chewed up something on the floor so when we went out Monday night, she was sentenced to the crate again. In keeping with her most annoying award, she decided it would be a great idea to bend the METAL bars of the crate, even breaking one off and creating a small hole for her to escape through. Of course, that gave her the opportunity to come upstairs and attack another diaper and the garbage. I didn't see any blood (like we have in the past) so I think she's ok...just annoying. Anyone want a dog?Yes, my 50lb dog got through that hole!

In happier news, Sam is in the middle of a big transition and is doing well. Since he was diagnosed with acid reflux, he has slept in his car seat every night. It was the only way he could comfortably sleep. Unfortunately, since he got used to that, he has only been able to sleep in the car seat or while being held. If we put him down somewhere, he would wake up after only 15minutes. His reflux seems to be gone so 2 nights ago, we decided to make the switch to the crib. He wasn't thrilled at first, but he only got up twice to eat and slept a total of 9 hours. Last night started the same with a feeding after 4 hours, but then he went for 7hours and slept until 8am. Thats 11 hours total!! Nap time didn't go as smoothly yesterday, but we'll keep trying.
Samuel actually sleeping somewhere other than the car seat!

In Ben news, he's sick again. He woke up in the middle of the night after a sneeze and in his most pathetic voice he cried out, "I have boogers!" We wiped him off, but he's a sneezy, congested mess. Hopefully, it will move quickly so we can get out and enjoy the warm weather coming this weekend.

Wordless Wednesday

My son the clutz.
I swear I don't beat him. Fortunately it doesn't look as bad in the picture. He got a minor black eye on Sunday and hit his forehead right above his eye on his bed last night.

More Wordless Wednesdays here and here.

Happy birthday

Today is Prastis birthday. We celebrated by going to Johnny Mangos. Jon and I had never been there before so we were excited to check it out. The food was great. However, after splitting the (delicious) flank steak with Jon, we were both raving about Bens cheese quesadilla! After dinner we headed back to Aaron and Prastis for some cake and ice cream. We're so glad we got to spend Prastis big day with her and hope she had a great birthday.
We also want to wish a happy b-day to Todd and my future sister-in-law, Marie.

Beautiful day

We took advantage of the sun yesterday and spent the morning in the Metro Parks. We did a lot of swinging, played catch, had lunch and got to pet a lot of dogs going by. I think Sam is going to love the swings as much as Ben does.

Nature boy

We were back at the Nature Center today for play group. A couple of us checked out Twinkle Tots. Its a short planetarium show for toddlers. Ben loved looking at all the stars, but just when he got into it, it was over. I think we're going to have to look for a slightly older show.
After checking out all the animals, we headed outside for lunch. Ben and Emma showed off their musical talents for us:

Catch up

I know, I didn't update the blog all last week. I was too busy wiping runny noses! Ben woke up with a cold last Monday and was nice enough to give it to Sam. Fortunately, his was a little more mild than Ben's. I think everyone is finally feeling better, but we're still waiting for Ben to get back to his normal self. He's been a little over sensitive and still has no appetite.

Here's a quick recap of the week:
Playing with friends at the Nature Center for play group.

Hanging out at home:
Coloring Easter eggs:Happy Easter:
Showing daddy how it's done:
We went to Gram and Paps for lunch after church yesterday with Aaron, Prasti, Emma and Corrie. We all had treats waiting for us and had a great time eating and relaxing.
Going for a ride:
We hope everyone had a great holiday.

A whole new world

We got Bens old exersaucer out of the attic this weekend for Sam. He leans more than sits, but he is already having a good time exploring his new toy.

Ben and dad have been playing catch quite a bit recently. Sam has been thoroughly enjoying being a spectator.

Unfortunately, Ben woke up with a cold this morning. He's had a rough day, but he's trying to grin and bear it!
