The wrong kid

When Ben was born with all of his respiratory issues, we were told that as he got older, he was at risk of developing asthma. So far, he is doing great. Imagine my surprise when Ellies doctor told us that she might be on her way to an asthma diagnosis!

Ellie has always had some reflux. Its nothing serious, no grunting or discomfort, just spit up after every meal. It actually got better a couple weeks ago then started to get worse again. On top of that, it sounds like she has something stuck in her throat (which has been stuck for over a month) and sometimes causes a cough. We took her to the doctor last week and were informed that she is also wheezing. The doctor educated me on the 2 types of constriction that causes wheezing. The first is air way constriction which could be caused by the reflux. The second is muscle constriction which could be caused by asthma. At this point, we have no way of knowing what type Ellie has. Right now the plan is to put some cereal in her formula. We are hoping the extra weight will keep it down. We have also started her on reflux medication. When she starts getting congested, we also have an inhaler to try. We need to test all theories and see if we can figure out what the cause is of Ellies wheezing. Obviously, we are hoping that clearing up the reflux will take care of the problem. We'll keep you posted.

In happier news, we met Jon out for a picnic lunch last week. The kids always think its cheating when they get to see dad in the middle of a work day.
