We took Sam back to the doctor yesterday for his 2 week check up. At this point, they expect the baby to be back to his birth weight. Sam weighed in at 8lbs 10oz. That's 9oz above his birth weight. They were very impressed with him. He is in the 61st percentile for weight and the 89th for height. Everything looks great. Sam is right where he should be in every aspect!
Yesterday was my first day at home with the kids and no husband or mother in law. I was a little nervous, but a couple friends came over so the kids could have a play date. I think the kids had a great time. There were toys everywhere, but Ben and Layla managed to find time to steal a couple kisses. It was very cute, but a little concerning that he's already kissing girls. This isn't their first time kissing either! I actually cooked dinner and dessert yesterday. Its wasn't terrible, but it could have been better. Jon let me off the hook tonight and ordered Chinese. We had another friend over today for a play date. It's nice to have the distraction and break up the day a little bit. Sam has had a lot of practice sleeping through a lot of noise! That's probably part of the reason he's not sleeping at night, he's not used to all the quiet! He goes back to the doctor tomorrow for a 2 week check up. I'm expecting another great report.
We went out to lunch yesterday at Liquid Planet with some friends. It was our first time there. They have a lot of wraps and smoothies. It was really good. Sam slept through the entire lunch. Ben and Sam wore their matching outfits from Aunt Prasti yesterday. They looked adorable! Ben really liked pointing out the dinosaur. Last night we went to Boo at the Zoo. We made sure to see the polar bears. One was very friendly and came right out and said hello to everyone. Sam slept through the entire night. Ben had a lot of fun looking at all the lights and pointing out when they turned on and off.
Ben has been all about Sam today and for the first time, he actually wanted to hold the baby. It was such a sweet moment. We had our home visit from the nurse at Fairview. She gave us a lot of great information about sleeping and feeding. She was very reassuring. She was just as impressed with Ben as she was with Sam. She is actually a friend of mine. It was nice to show off our kids and be reassured that everything is as it should be!
We came home from the hospital on Saturday. Fairview was great. The nurses were wonderful, the room was comfy, but it just wasn't home. We've spent some time with family and friends, but for the most part have just been figuring out how to adjust to life with 2 kids. Ben has been doing better than I expected. He lets us know every time the baby cries or when the baby is sleeping. He's been giving the baby kisses and has even wanted to sit next to the baby. He's been entertaining himself with his toys when we're occupied with Sam and is doing his best to help with diaper changes and covering Sam with his blanket. On top of all the changes he's had to deal with, he's lost his binky. He chewed a hole in it and threw it away. He hasn't really seemed to care so we haven't replaced it. Its taken a little longer for him to fall asleep (he only got it for bed time or naps). He spent an hour talking to himself last night, but it was very entertaining to listen to.
Sam is also doing well. We had to go to the doctor today to make sure he started putting on weight. He went from 8lbs 1oz to 7lbs 5oz. That is normal, but they didn't want to wait a couple weeks to see him in case he kept losing. He was back up to 7lbs 10oz and looks completely healthy. Even with the weight gain, he is swimming in his new born clothes. We thought he would be much bigger than he was so we only got a couple new born outfits. He's going to look like his clothes are swallowing him for a while!
Jon has been working hard to take care of all of us. He definitely deserves husband of the year award. He's doing an amazing job of making sure Ben doesn't feel left out, spending quality time with Sam, straightening up the house, going to the store, lifting the kids for me, making sure I don't over do it and letting me attempt to get some sleep.
I'm still moving slow. On top of the incision pain, I've got headaches and a backache. I cant lift Ben, drive, move around easily or quickly. I feel like an old woman who is falling apart! It will be nice to start feeling like myself again.
After the longest 9 months ever, we finally welcomed Samuel John into the world on Wednesday. He was born at 4:01pm by c-section. He weighed in at 8lbs 1oz and was 20 inches long (Ben was 7lbs 7oz and also 20 in). He is completely healthy and absolutely perfect. He has a full head of dark brown hair with some blond highlights. The surgery went pretty smoothly. They set up a mirror for me so I could watch the whole thing. It was kind of gross, but very cool at the same time. After Sam came out, my doctor gave me an anatomy lesson. She showed me my uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes! We picked Samuel because we loved the name. We have no family or friend connection to the name. We got a 2 for 1 deal with the middle name. My step dads middle name is John and Jon's papaw was a John. We came home today. He's so little he barely fits in the car seat. He looks like he's being swallowed up! He lost some weight. He's down to 7lbs 5oz. We have to keep an eye on him to make sure he doesn't lose anymore. The boy has been eating almost non stop so hopefully, that wont be an issue! Jon has been amazing the past few days. I'm still completely sore and unable to move or lift a lot. He's been taking great care of all of us. Ben is slowly warming up. He's given Sam a few kisses and comments when the baby cries or is sleeping, but he still hasn't completely warmed up to the idea of a brother. His tantrums are getting better, but very slowly! Here is our newest member...
We went up to Red Robin tonight for dinner with some friends. It was our last night out for a while. We had a great time, but when the Robin came up to say hi, Ben was a little freaked out and hid in Aunt Corries arms! He spent most of the night chasing Layla, but he managed to eat a couple bites of dinner.
Since today is Columbus Day, Jon got the day off and decided to have some quality time with Ben at the zoo. It sounds like they had a great time. Ben loved watching the polar bears playing in the water.
Ben has had a rough weekend. He spent almost 2 full days screaming and crying over nothing. He would beg and cry for juice, his binky, Elmo etc. It didn't matter if we gave it to him or not. If we didn't, he would cry. If we did, he would throw it on the floor and cry. He didn't want to be held, we left him alone, we tried ignoring him, we tried talking to him..nothing worked. He talked to my parents on the phone tonight. Actually, they talked and he stared at the phone. It seemed to work though. He finally calmed down and we've had a decent night. Everyone seems to think he knows Spud is coming and soon! I'm not completely sure how he's going to react once Spud is here, but after seeing him this weekend I'm a little worried. He did have a couple calm times. We went out to dinner on Friday and went to a clam bake on Sat at my parents house. Of course, I forgot my camera so I'm waiting on them to forward some pics.
Ben post tantrum--we couldn't even get his pants back on after his nap. He was that upset. He went with out all night. I'm sure he did enough screaming and kicking to keep warm!
We had our final doctor appointment today. I have definitely dropped. I went from 37 cm to 34 cm. I'm still not dilated, but she has left the possibility open of going into labor at any time. I think I'll last until Wed though. We also found out that I'll have the option of staying in the hospital until Sunday. We were thinking we would have to leave on Saturday. However, she said a lot of people choose to leave early since the visiting hours are so strict, they get bored. I think we're still planning on leaving Saturday assuming everything goes as planned.
I think Ben realizes things are changing soon. He has been extra lovey and cuddly the past couple days. Its been very sweet.
I love buying clothes for Ben, but I think I have the most fun picking out pj's for him. Especially when its cold outside. I think he looks so grown up in some of them. I'm excited that its getting cold out so he can start wearing some of the fun ones he got for his b-day. We're ready for fall!Today was play group. As usual, Ben was all about the swings. He heard Emma ask to go higher and that was all we heard for about 5 minutes. After play group we all went to lunch and Ben got a hug and a kiss from Emma when it was time for her to leave. Its sad to think that one day they wont come close to the same excitement they have for each other now!
For the past couple weeks, we have been working hard to get everything ready for the baby. We've cleaned out and rearranged rooms, painted, dug stuff out of the basement, washed a ton of clothes the list goes on and on. We've done this to help ensure a stress free day at he hospital next week. We should have known there is no such thing! Less than an hour ago I heard a report that National City is for sale again. They had all but guaranteed NCB was safe and the company that gave them all that money a couple months ago was in it for the long haul. Jon hasn't heard anything from work yet. I'm hoping that this is all a big mistake or that NCB has been in talks with other banks for a completely different reason. Hopefully they'll make some sort of announcement today to put our fears at rest. Say some prayers, think positive thoughts, cross your fingers or do what ever it is that you do and send it our way. I'm still working on my patience and not worrying about everything, but I think I'm losing that battle right now!
The three of us finally made it to the hayride tonight. It was chilly, but we had a great time. When we passed another cart, we stopped for a small hay fight. Ben laughed every time hay went flying through the air. They also had a maze, face painting, balloon animals and square dancing. We didn't partake in any dancing, but it was fun to watch.
Today was the start of a new park for play group. We knew it would be a little cold, but we weren't prepared for how windy it was this morning. We didn't last very long, but managed to have a good time. After we just got warm, Ben and I went up to Jon's office and had a picnic to watch the airplanes taking off. Ben was so excited by the planes, he didn't notice how cold it was outside.
I've been tagged by Prasti to list 6 random things you might or might not know about me. Here's what I've come up with:
1. I am afraid of the dark and our basement. If I need to go to the basement at night, I will either make Jon go for me or make him go down with me and stay there until I'm done with what ever I was doing.
2. I have issues with water spots on the faucets, especially after I clean them. I know its a faucet, which water comes out of. I know its only natural that water splashes on the faucets. I just can't stand to see it and am constantly going behind Jon to dry them after he cooks or washes his hands. I think he makes some extra splashes on purpose!
3. I don't like drinking beverages that have been left out, especially in the car. I thought this was a normal thing. However, Jon often makes fun of me for being thirsty, but refusing to drink from a bottle of water that has been left in the car regardless if its a hot or cold day.
4. I prefer cold weather. I would take a cold, cloudy day over hot and sunny in a heartbeat. (Its not really football weather unless you're cold)!
5. I'm a list person. I make to do lists all the time. Sometimes I have a list at home, work, in my purse or where ever I am. Then I make lists of all the lists I have. Its never ending!
6. I absolutely hate to cook (mostly because I'm not good at it). If Jon wasn't around I would probably have cereal or toast for dinner every night. Jon is going to make me start cooking when I become a stay at home mom and I'm absolutely dreading it. I have no desire to learn, no creativity with meals and no talent in the kitchen. I'll give it 2 weeks before Jon takes over the cooking again!
Well, I hope you learned something about me. Thanks for reading.

I don't know a lot of bloggers, except the people that Prasti already tagged. I'll have to get back to you on who I'm going to tag.
Oh, we had a doctors apt today. We're finally up to 36cm. I'm 37 weeks today. I'm still not dilated and the cervix hasn't budged. I have had a huge increase in contractions and I've definitely dropped. 2 weeks to go!
